Kurant is attending Supermarket Independent Art Fair which is an artist-run fair for artist-run spaces and other artist-run initiatives. Kurant has invited three artists with connections to Kurant to participate in the fair.
Matilda Carlid did her bachelor's degree at the Art Academy in Tromsø and currently lives in Berlin. She mainly works with narratives in the form of text, drawings, publications and blind movies. At Supermarket she will perform the work Utanför lägenhetsfönstret ligger hunden / Över motorvägen den fuktiga dimman / Mellan träden överblivet plastmaterial. The work consists of 7 video cassettes, described through a text reading. The format focuses on the relationship / conflict between lingustic and physical visuality. Thematically it is about defective intimacy and the body as physical material.
Sille Storihle has a bachelor's degree from the Art Academy in Trondheim and a master's degree from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), Los Angeles. The work she exhibits at Supermarket, The Pioneers, is part of a larger project on gay nationalism. From 1970 to 1971 activists in California worked with establishing a gay colony, The Stonewall Nation in Alpine County.
Øystein Wyller Odden has a bachelor's degree from the Art Academy in Oslo, and lives and works in Oslo. Wyller Odden works primarily with objects and installations, often with sound and music. He is currently working with the human perception of randomness in relation to mysticism. At Supermarket he will show a fragment of his upcoming solo exhibition at Kurant (March 2012).
We will also bring with us a part of Mondo Tromso, a non-profit artbook store that has it's base in Kurant's localities since the very beginning. In the store you can find fanzines, graphic prints and other curiosities. Nothing costs more than NOK 500 and everything is usually in limited editions. In addition, they have just released a self-produced publication called "Mondo Tromso Calling".
