Concert by Ørjan Amundsen

Planka was originally a regular plank, a shelf in the ceiling between the kitchen and living room in the artist couple Anna Daniell and Sverre Strandbergs apartment at Tøyen in Oslo.  A deep desire to open a new artspace in Oslo led to the plank in the ceiling appearing as a natural place. In May 2008 the first exhibition of Planka opened with Anna Daniell, Sverre Strandberg, Line Halvorsen, Mikkel McAlinden and Steinar Haga Kristensen exhibiting. After a string of successes and Planka 5 Anna Daniell will make an exhibition in the woods titled Gallery, dammit earth in my Gallery. Among those invited are Steinar Haga Kristensen who will exhibit Planka as an independent work of art. The piece Gallery by Kristensen is purchased by the Norwegian Young Artists' Society (UKS) and given to Helga Marie Nordby as a parting gift when she quit her job at UKS. In October 2009 Helga takes Planka up north and opens the exhibition Planka in Tromso with Nicolas Siepen, Miriam Haile, Terje Nicolaisen and Vebjørn Guttormsgaard. After a long break of Planka exhibitions in the original and plankless address at Tøyen, UKS is sponsoring the address with a new plank. It is an exact replica of the original, so that today there are two identical planks, one in Oslo and one in Tromso. Planka Tromso never got any permanent space and is living a mobile existence today.
