Kulturnatta at Kurant: Latent River
As a part of Kulturnatta Tromsø and the ongoing exhibition DUTY FREE by Nicolas Siepen, Kurant is pleased to present a screening of the film Latent River, along with a musical performance by the sound-performance collective Tromsø Dollsz Arkestra. And as expected, party like there's no yesterday!
The two part film Latent River takes place in ruins: a destroyed theater in São Paulo and an abandoned house at a beach in Tromsø. Flooded by a underground river, which springs up in the rain forest region, muddy waters transported the real and latent catastrophes of the dispossessed from the past into the theater. A storm pushed the ice slobber and cubes to the shores of the beach house. In the silent ruins, Latent River creates an anthology and index of variations, “short stories” and gestures framed by the catastrophe and set off a movement of resurrection and ungrounding. It tells it's story with darkrooms and gloomy light, when the rain is woven like silk threads into the the fabric of the big city in the south or the icy beach in the north. A dark storm is coming, blow over clouds of glitter and purple fog.
Latent River is a COMOclube production
The film is financially supported by the Academy of Contemporary Art and Creative Writing, University of Tromsø, Norway
