Kurant invites you to an exhibition by Helsinki-based artists Ida Palojärvi, Azar Saiyar and Marja Viitahuhta. While We Forget is a group exhibition bringing mixed-media and installation works together to explore a series of relationships: in movement, between kinesis and stasis; in memory, between recall and forgetting; in the sensual, between familiarity and strangeness. Rather than sitting as antagonistic binaries, the exhibition presents these relationships as taking place simultaneously, a constant flow happening in the same breath.

Ida Palojärvi graduated from Helsinki’s Academy of Fine Arts as Master of Arts in 2016. She has created works both in solo shows and as part of group exhibitions. Palojärvi’s works are installations built in a given space. They often blur, shift or tilt the focus of the everyday vision of the viewer.

Azar Saiyar is a filmmaker and visual artist whose art has been shown at film and media art festivals, galleries, exhibitions, museums and from television. She often uses archive materials and plays with images and words of collective memory to look towards the ways of looking, speaking, remembering, growing, conforming and telling stories. She also does collaborative works with other artists.

Marja Viitahuhta (formerly Mikkonen) is a media artist and filmmaker. Her works range from films, performances and installations to photography and collage. She holds a BA degree in performance art from the Turku Polytechnic Arts Academy and an MFA degree from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts. She has been awarded internationally at Cannes (Cinéfondation), Stuttgarter Filmwinter, Mediawave and L’Alternativa film festivals. Viitahuhta's work often speaks in an intimate and personal tone dealing with temporarlity, presence and mortality. She bases her work on documentary filmmaking, archive material and found images as well as interviews.

The project is generously supported by Kulturrådet, Tromsø Kommune, FRAME, Finland, Finish Art Council and Kuvasto.
